Acrylic Foam Tape — Double Sided Industrial Structural Bonding

Acrylic Foam Tape — Industrial VHB Alternative

BiTape acrylic foam tape delivers structural bonding for industrial assemblies that replace mechanical fasteners. The double sided acrylic foam tape series — 510T clear 40 mil, 901G gray 43 mil and 912N black 90.6 mil — covers architectural glazing, composite aluminum panel (ACM) cladding, automotive emblem mounting, signage attachment, electronics housings and white goods assembly. Closed-cell acrylic foam compresses to compensate surface irregularities, distributes load evenly and maintains the bond through thermal cycling, vibration and weather exposure. Acrylic foam tape is specified where structural strength, weather resistance and clean invisible bond lines are required.

Structural double-coated acrylic foam tapes — closed-cell formulation with high-performance modified acrylic adhesive on both faces. The construction provides high flexibility, sustained tensile resistance and excellent conformability to smooth or slightly irregular surfaces. Acrylic foam tape replaces traditional mechanical fastening methods such as welding, rivets and screws, delivering clean invisible bond lines that resist weather cycling, UV and thermal expansion.

Engineered for structural glazing, composite aluminum panels (ACM), steel sheets, automotive trim, transparent plastics and glass mounting. Specified across construction, transportation, metalworking, electronics, white goods and graphic industries.

Available in clear (510T), gray (901G) and black (912N) — three thicknesses to fit aesthetic and technical requirements of each project, with easy-remove red PE liner.

KEY FEATURES:

  • High load-holding power on metals and glass
  • Creates invisible bond lines (replaces visible mechanical fasteners)
  • Closed-cell foam absorbs shock and impact
  • Weather resistant — UV, moisture, thermal cycling
  • Resistant to solvents and chemicals
  • Conforms to smooth or slightly irregular surfaces
  • Easy-remove red PE liner
  • Three colors and thicknesses available

Frequently Asked Questions

An acrylic foam tape is a double-coated tape with a closed-cell acrylic foam core and pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive on both faces. The acrylic foam is denser and more chemically resistant than PE foam, distributing loads evenly across the bond line and absorbing vibration, impact and thermal expansion. BiTape acrylic foam tape covers three thicknesses and colors — 510T clear 40 mil (1.0 mm), 901G gray 43 mil (1.1 mm) and 912N black 90.6 mil (2.3 mm) — engineered to replace mechanical fasteners in structural assemblies.

Specify BiTape 510T (clear 40 mil / 1.0 mm) when transparency is required — bonding glass, mirrors, transparent acrylic and polycarbonate where mechanical fasteners would be visually intrusive. Service window -40 to 248 °F (-40 to 120 °C). Specify BiTape 901G (gray 43.3 mil / 1.1 mm) for heavy-duty applications on opaque substrates — transportation panels, signage and metalworking. Specify BiTape 912N (black 90.6 mil / 2.3 mm) for thick structural bonds on dark-finish facades, ACM cladding and structural glazing where the bond line must compensate larger surface irregularities and dark color preserves aesthetics.

Yes, when ensemble engineering allows it. Acrylic foam tape is specified to replace mechanical fasteners on smooth or slightly irregular surfaces — composite aluminum panels, steel sheets, transparent plastics and glass. The closed-cell foam distributes loads uniformly (avoiding stress concentration around fastener holes), seals against weather and absorbs vibration. Sustained tensile resistance up to ≥224 oz/in (≥2,500 gf/10 mm) peel on 912N (ASTM D-3330). For each application, evaluate substrate compatibility, surface preparation and dwell time before placing the assembly under design load.

Acrylic foam tape (510T, 901G, 912N) uses a denser closed-cell acrylic foam core with higher chemical resistance, broader temperature range and structural-grade adhesion — for assemblies that replace mechanical fasteners and require weather resistance for years. PE foam tape (485N, 4203B, 4500B) uses a more conformable polyethylene foam core for light-to-medium duty bonding, AAMA-certified glazing and gap sealing. Specify acrylic foam tape for industrial structural applications; specify PE foam tape for AAMA glazing, signage mounting and gap-filling on lighter assemblies.

BiTape acrylic foam tape is specified for construction (structural glazing, ACM cladding, dark-finish facades, panel mounting), transportation (truck and bus body panels, automotive emblems, decorative trim), metalworking (sheet bonding, replace welding/rivets), electronics (LCD-to-polycarbonate bonding, instrument housings), white goods (appliance panel mounting, control panels) and graphic industries (signage attachment, lightbox assembly, displays).

BiTape acrylic foam tape delivers high adhesion on stainless steel, aluminum and glass with direct application. ABS and polycarbonate require surface cleaning and may require condition evaluation. PVC works with primer recommended. Low surface energy plastics (PE film, PP) require surface treatment or primer for reliable adhesion. PTFE is NOT recommended without surface treatment. See the substrate compatibility table above for full guidance.

Substrates must be clean, dry and free of dust, grease, oil and adhesive residue. Wipe both bonding faces with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth. Mechanically clean any rust or flaking coatings. Low surface energy plastics (PE, PP) require primer or plasma pretreatment. Apply firm pressure across the entire bond area for proper adhesive wet-out — closed-cell acrylic foam needs full contact to develop its rated adhesion. Allow 24-72 hours dwell time before placing the assembly under full design load, especially for structural glazing and dark-finish applications.

BiTape 510T, 901G and 912N acrylic foam tapes are available in standard widths 1/4 in, 1/2 in, 3/4 in, 1 in and 2 in (6, 12, 19, 25 and 50 mm). Custom widths and die-cut shapes on request — particularly useful for high-volume automotive die-cuts, pre-cut glazing strips and signage attachment. Specify thickness (510T for 40 mil / 1.0 mm, 901G for 43.3 mil / 1.1 mm, 912N for 90.6 mil / 2.3 mm) and color (clear, gray or black) when ordering.
