Foam Gasket Tape — Application and Handling

Surfaces must be free of dust, grease, oil and water. Use isopropyl alcohol as cleaner on both surfaces. Bond strength depends on surface area in direct contact with the tape. Apply firm pressure for a proper bond.

How to apply BiTape 203N

  1. Clean the substrate. Surfaces must be free of dust, grease, oil and water. Wipe both surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth. Allow to dry.
  2. Cut the tape to length. Measure the closure path (door, window, lid). Cut the foam gasket tape with scissors or knife. For corners, use 45° miter cuts to keep continuity.
  3. Peel the liner. Peel the white release paper progressively, exposing 10-20 cm of adhesive at a time to avoid contamination.
  4. Apply with firm pressure. Position the tape on the substrate. Press firmly along the entire run, ensuring even contact. Bond strength depends on surface area in direct contact.
  5. Verify continuity. Inspect the tape run for gaps, lifts or wrinkles. The seal must be continuous to block dust, moisture and air leaks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. BiTape 203N is a 1/8 in foam gasket tape — a single-sided PVC foam tape with solvent-based acrylic adhesive on black PVC foam. This foam gasket tape delivers stainless steel adhesion 12 oz/in (ASTM D-1000), elongation 110% with adhesive (ASTM D-412), compression deflection 2.2 psi (ASTM D-1667), water absorption 6% (ASTM D-1056). Self-extinguishing (MVSS 302). Service -22 to 176 °F.
Apply foam gasket tape 203N to a clean, dry surface and press firmly to ensure even contact. For seals on doors, windows or refrigeration chambers, keep the tape run continuous and free of gaps. For glass exposure or continuous thermal cycling, classify performance as medium and validate compression and closure of the assembly; this product is not suitable as a barrier against direct moisture immersion. This is a single-sided product, not a substitute for a double-coated tape.
Yes. Foam gasket tape 203N is suitable for indoor and outdoor use with excellent resistance to fungi and oxidation. Its 3 mm thin profile is designed for fine sealing on doors, windows, lids and cabinets where the closure gap is small. Self-extinguishing PVC foam (MVSS 302) cushions impact and blocks dust, moisture and contaminants within -22 to 176 °F.
BiTape 203N foam gasket tape is specified for construction, automotive and electronics. Applications: door and window sealing, refrigeration chamber gasketing, cabinet and lid sealing, fine-gap sealing on glass-related applications where a 3 mm compliant foam and self-extinguishing behavior are required.
203N foam gasket tape is a 3 mm thin profile for fine sealing in small closure gaps (doors, windows, lids). 206N foam gasket tape is a 6 mm thick profile for larger uneven gaps (refrigeration chambers, industrial access points). Both are single-sided PVC foam, MVSS 302 self-extinguishing. Specify by gap size: <3 mm use 203N, 3-6 mm use 206N.
BiTape 203N foam gasket tape is available in standard widths 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 1" and 2" . Custom widths on request. Shelf life 2 years from date of manufacture, stored at 72-77 °F and 50% relative humidity.
For fine window sealing where the closure gap is under 1/8 in, BiTape 203N PVC foam gasket tape (1/8 in thin profile, MVSS 302 self-extinguishing) is the recommended one sided foam tape. It blocks dust, moisture and air leaks while cushioning impact. For wider gaps (1/8 in- 1/4 in), use BiTape 206N (1/4 in). Both meet ASTM D-1000 adhesion and ASTM D-1667 compression deflection.
BiTape 203N is a single-sided foam gasket tape designed for sealing applications, not for bonding two substrates together. Choose 203N when the goal is to seal a closure gap (door, window, lid, cabinet) and cushion against impact, dust and moisture. If your application requires structural bonding between two surfaces (mounting panels, signage, mirrors), specify an acrylic foam tape (BiTape 510T, 901G, 912N) for high-performance assembly or a PE foam tape (BiTape 485N, 4203B, 4500B) for medium-load mounting.
