Foam Gasket Tape — Application and Handling

Apply BiTape 206N one sided foam tape on clean, dry substrates between 18 °C and 38 °C (65 °F to 100 °F). The single sided foam tape adheres only on one face — leave the foam side exposed for sealing or cushioning against the mating surface.

How to apply BiTape 206N on refrigeration chambers and large gaps

  1. Clean the substrate. Surfaces must be free of dust, grease, oil and water. Wipe both surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth. Allow to dry.
  2. Measure the closure gap. On large lids, refrigeration doors or HVAC access panels, measure the closure gap. Confirm 3-6 mm range — beyond 6.4 mm, multiple strips or a thicker product may be required.
  3. Cut the tape to length. Measure the perimeter (door, lid, panel). Cut the foam gasket tape with a utility knife. For corners, use 45° miter cuts to keep continuity.
  4. Peel the liner progressively. Peel the white release paper exposing 10-20 cm of adhesive at a time to avoid contamination during placement on long runs.
  5. Apply with firm pressure. Position the 6.4 mm foam against the substrate. Press firmly along the entire run, ensuring uniform contact. Bond strength depends on surface area in direct contact.
  6. Verify continuity and compression. Close the lid/door once. The 6.4 mm foam should compress to fill the gap without bulging out. Inspect for lifts, gaps or wrinkles. Reapply pressure if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. BiTape 206N is a 6.4 mm (1/4 in) foam gasket tape — a single-sided PVC foam tape with solvent-based acrylic adhesive on black PVC foam. This thick foam gasket tape delivers stainless steel adhesion 12 oz/in (ASTM D-1000), elongation 110% with adhesive (ASTM D-412), compression deflection 2.2 psi / 15.2 kPa (ASTM D-1667), water absorption 6% (ASTM D-1056). Self-extinguishing (MVSS 302). Service -22 to 176 °F.
Apply foam gasket tape 206N to a clean, dry surface and press firmly to ensure even contact. For seals on doors, windows or refrigeration chambers, keep the tape run continuous and free of gaps. For glass exposure or continuous thermal cycling, classify performance as medium and validate compression and closure of the assembly; this product is not suitable as a barrier against direct moisture immersion. This is a single-sided product, not a substitute for a double-coated tape.
Yes. Foam gasket tape 206N uses a 6.4 mm thick PVC foam profile engineered to compensate uneven gaps and surface irregularities on refrigeration chambers, large lids and industrial access points. Self-extinguishing behavior (MVSS 302) and resistance to fungi and oxidation support outdoor use within -22 to 176 °F.
BiTape 206N one sided foam tape is widely used in refrigeration, HVAC, automotive cabinetry, construction (window/door weatherstripping) and electronics housing — any industry requiring gap sealing with cushioning.
206N foam gasket tape is a 6.4 mm thick profile for larger closure gaps where 203N (3 mm) cannot compensate. Both are single-sided PVC foam, MVSS 302 self-extinguishing, service -22 to 176 °F. Specify by gap size: <3 mm use 203N, 3-6 mm use 206N foam gasket tape.
BiTape 206N foam gasket tape is available in standard widths 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 1" and 2". Custom widths on request. Shelf life 2 years from date of manufacture, stored at 72-77 °F and 50% relative humidity.
For refrigeration chambers and HVAC access panels with closure gaps of 3-6 mm, BiTape 206N PVC foam gasket tape (6.4 mm thick profile, MVSS 302 self-extinguishing) is the recommended single sided foam tape. The thick foam compensates surface irregularities and blocks cold loss within -22 to 176 °F service. For finer gaps under 3 mm, use BiTape 203N (3 mm). Both meet ASTM D-1000 adhesion and ASTM D-1667 compression deflection.
BiTape 206N is a single-sided thick foam gasket tape designed for sealing applications with uneven gaps and surface irregularities — not for bonding two substrates together. Choose 206N when the goal is to seal large closure gaps (refrigeration chambers, HVAC access panels, large industrial lids) and absorb dimensional variation between the two surfaces. If your application requires structural bonding between two surfaces (mounting panels, signage, automotive trim), specify an acrylic foam tape (BiTape 510T, 901G, 912N) for high-performance assembly or a thick PE foam tape (BiTape 4500B, 21 mm) for medium-load mounting on wider gaps.
Choose one sided foam tape (BiTape 206N) when you need sealing, cushioning or gap compensation against a separate mating surface — refrigeration chamber doors, HVAC panel gaps, weatherstripping. Choose double sided foam tape when you need to permanently bond two substrates together. The one sided foam tape exposes the foam surface for compression-based sealing instead of adhesive contact.
