Black Acrylic Foam Tape 90.6 mil — Application and Handling

Surfaces must be free of dust, grease, oil and water. Use isopropyl alcohol as cleaner on both surfaces. Bond strength depends on surface area in direct contact with the tape. Apply firm pressure for proper wet-out of the closed-cell foam. Note: the silicon-coated liner is NOT residue-free upon removal.

How to apply BiTape 912N black acrylic foam tape

  1. Clean both substrates. Surfaces must be free of dust, grease, oil and water. Wipe both bonding faces with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth. Mechanically clean any rust or flaking coatings. Low surface energy plastics require primer or plasma pretreatment.
  2. Cut the tape to length. Measure the bonding line. The 90.6 mil closed-cell acrylic foam tape is die-cuttable to custom shapes for structural glazing, composite aluminum panel cladding, automotive emblems and LCD-to-polycarbonate assemblies.
  3. Apply to the first substrate. Peel the silicon-coated paper/PE liner from one side. Position the tape and press firmly along the entire run, ensuring uniform contact with the substrate.
  4. Bond the second substrate. Peel the remaining liner. Align the second substrate and press firmly. Bond strength depends on surface area in direct contact — cover the entire overlap with even pressure for proper wet-out of the foam.
  5. Allow shear curing time. Initial peel ≥215 oz/in at RT × 2 h is achieved on contact. Full peel ≥224 oz/in develops after 24 hours; dynamic shear ≥119 psi after 24 h. For structural glazing or sustained outdoor exposure, allow 72 h dwell before placing the assembly under full design load.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. BiTape 912N is a 90.6 mil black acrylic foam tape engineered as a structural double sided tape for structural glazing, composite aluminum panels, steel sheets and general plastics under sustained tensile load. Closed-cell acrylic foam carrier with high-performance modified acrylic adhesive: peel ≥215 oz/in (RT × 2 h), ≥224 oz/in (RT × 24 h), ≥232 oz/in (250 h at 176 °F ); dynamic shear ≥116 psi (RT × 2 h), ≥119 psi (RT × 24 h), ≥123 psi. Service -4 to 248 °F.

Black acrylic foam tape 912N requires both substrates free of dust, grease, oil and water. Isopropyl alcohol is the recommended cleaner. Apply firm pressure across the full contact area for correct wet-out of the 90.6 mil closed-cell foam. Substrates with rust or flaking coatings must be mechanically cleaned; low surface energy plastics require primer or plasma pretreatment. Allow 72 h dwell before placing structural glazing assemblies under full design load.

Yes — that is its primary design. BiTape 912N retains structural performance after 250 h thermal aging: peel adhesion increases to ≥232 oz/in at 176 °F and dynamic shear holds ≥123 psi. After 250 h at 100 % RH, dynamic shear stays at ≥120 psi. Cold service down to -4 °F preserves ≥188 oz/in peel and ≥113 psi shear. Service window -4 to 248 °F. Specified for structural glazing, ACM cladding and dark-finish facades exposed to seasonal weather cycling.

Yes. The 90.6 mil closed-cell black acrylic foam offers good die-cutting performance and is suited for LCD-to-polycarbonate bonding, automotive emblem mounting, decorative trim and protective moldings. Sustained shear ≥120 psi after 250 h at 100 % RH protects display electronics and exterior trim. Black color preserves dark-finish aesthetics in automotive and architectural applications.

BiTape 912N black acrylic foam tape is specified for construction (structural glazing, ACM cladding, steel sheet panels, dark-finish facades), automotive (emblem mounting, decorative trim, side moldings, dark exterior parts), electronics (LCD-to-polycarbonate bonding, display assemblies) and general industrial production where sustained tensile load, weather cycling and structural integrity are required on dark or non-transparent substrates.

912N is the black structural variant of the BiTape acrylic foam family — 90.6 mil, closed-cell, peel ≥224 oz/in at RT × 24 h, designed for dark-finish structural glazing, ACM cladding and steel panels. 510T is the clear acrylic foam tape for transparent glass and acrylic mounting (mirrors, displays). 901G is the grey/light acrylic foam for opaque heavy-duty applications. 485N is a thinner black PE foam tape (1.6 mm / 63 mil) for lower-load signage, badge mounting and emblem fixing where structural performance is not required. Specify 912N when thick structural load + dark finish is the requirement.

BiTape 912N black acrylic foam tape is available in standard widths 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 1" and 2" on 108 ft  rolls. Custom widths and die-cut shapes on request — particularly useful for structural glazing, ACM cladding and high-volume automotive die-cuts. Shelf life 12 months from date of manufacture, stored at 69-100 °F and 50 % relative humidity.

No. BiTape 912N is engineered for permanent structural assembly and is NOT residue-free upon removal. The high-performance modified acrylic adhesive is intended for the lifetime of the assembly under design load. If removability is a requirement, specify a removable PSA tape from the BiTape catalog rather than the 912N structural acrylic foam.
