High Temperature Masking Tape — Powder Coating and Silicone
Powder Coating Masking Tape - Polyester Silicone Construction
Polyester carrier with silicone adhesive engineered for powder coating masking tape applications, anodizing process and flashbreaker work — sustained service up to 480°F.
Powder coating masking tape engineered for demanding finishing operations — chemically corrosive environments, sustained heat exposure and silicone-treated surfaces. The silicone masking tape system removes cleanly without residue or adhesive transfer, bonds reliably to low surface energy plastics and tough-to-stick substrates, and resists the cure ovens, anodizing baths and e-coat processes typical of metal finishing lines.
KEY FEATURES:
- Sustained service up to 400 °F without softening, oozing or transfer
- Silicone adhesive bonds to silicone-treated surfaces and mold release fixtures
- Resistant to corrosive chemicals — anodizing baths, solvents, plating processes
- No adhesive residue upon removal
- Sharp paint line for powder coating, e-coat and electrostatic painting
- Polyester carrier provides dimensional stability through cure cycles
- Single-sided masking tape — temporary masking, NOT permanent bonding
TAPE STRUCTURE
Liner (siliconized paper)
Function: Adhesive protection and handling
- Protects the silicone adhesive before application
- Enables die-cutting and accurate positioning
- Allows controlled release at the production line
- Maintains product stability during storage
Polyester carrier
Function: Dimensional stability and clean paint line
- 3.2 mil (0.082 mm) total thickness — thin enough for sharp paint lines
- Resists tearing during high-volume die-cutting and tape removal
- Withstands cure oven temperature without distortion
Silicone adhesive
Function: Permanent bond to the substrate during the process — clean removal after
- Withstands sustained heat to 400 °F without softening
- Bonds reliably to silicone liners, mold release fixtures and low surface energy plastics

Frequently Asked Questions
A high temperature masking tape is a single-sided polyester masking tape with silicone adhesive... BiTape 983V is the powder coating masking tape rated for sustained service up to 480°F — typical powder coating cure ovens, e-coat ovens and flashbreaker work on cured epoxy coatings — with the silicone adhesive bonding reliably to silicone-treated surfaces, mold release fixtures and other tough-to-stick substrates.
The silicone adhesive system is engineered for two reasons. First, it withstands sustained heat up to 480°F without softening, oozing or transferring residue — rubber adhesives typically fail at 250-300 °F and acrylic adhesives are not suited to silicone-treated substrates. Second, silicone bonds well to tough-to-stick substrates: silicone liners, mold release fixtures and other low surface energy materials commonly found in composite tooling, electronics encapsulation and powder coating masking tape production lines. The trade-off is that silicone masking tape is more expensive than rubber — specify high temperature masking tape only when the application demands silicone properties.
BiTape 983V high temperature masking tape is single sided — adhesive on one face only — engineered for temporary masking, holding and splicing during high-temperature finishing operations. It is NOT a double-coated tape and is NOT intended for permanent bonding. For double-sided industrial bonding specify BiTape acrylic foam tape (510T, 901G, 912N) or PE foam tape (485N, 4203B, 4500B). For thin double-sided tissue or PET tape specify the BiTape thin double sided tape range (0960B, 0962B, 0965T).
BiTape 983V high temperature masking tape is rated for sustained service up to 248°C / 480°F. This window covers the typical cure ovens of powder coating masking tape applications (typically 350-400°F), flashbreaker on cured epoxy coatings, e-coat ovens and vacuum bag sealing during composite cure cycles. The silicone masking tape adhesive resists the softening, oozing and adhesive transfer that disqualify standard rubber-based masking tapes at these temperatures.
BiTape high temperature masking tape is specified for metal finishing (powder coating, anodizing, e-coat lines), automotive (paint line masking, e-coat ovens, flashbreaker on cured coatings), composites (vacuum bag sealing, mold release surfaces, prepreg holding), electronics (component masking on surfaces with silicone liners) and general metallurgy where corrosive chemical processes and temperatures up to 400 °F require a polyester silicone masking tape.
The masked surface must be dry, clean and free of dust, grease or adhesive residue. Apply firm pressure across the full contact area for a sharp, defined paint line. The silicone adhesive bonds well to tough-to-stick substrates such as silicone liners and mold release fixtures, but standard substrates (metal, glass, painted surfaces) should still be wiped clean before tape application. Run a small adhesion test on porous or unusual substrates before full deployment.
The silicone masking tape adhesive resists the softening, 1/2 in, 3/4 in, 1 in and 2 in on 72 yd rolls. Custom widths and die-cut shapes on request — particularly useful for high-volume powder coating, anodizing or e-coat masking lines that require precise geometry. Shelf life 24 months from date of manufacture, stored at 60-85 °F and 40-60 % relative humidity.
